Thank you for your interest in this role with Norwich City Council.

This is an unmissable opportunity for you to be at the heart of an incredible team of people who are passionate about what they do, their role in local government and the city they represent.

Norwich is very much a tale of two cities – on the one hand it’s vibrant and prosperous with a great cultural offer which effortlessly blends its historic roots with a sassy and modern take on life.

On the other hand, it’s a city with real challenges – we have people living in deprivation and some of our most vulnerable are being taken advantage of by drugs gangs who exploit young people and ‘cuckoo’ the homes of others as a base for illegal drug activity.

But despite the challenges, we are at the forefront of an exciting agenda.

The city council was the driving force behind bringing together the key movers and shakers in the city to agree a 2040 vision document which sets out the kind of place we want Norwich to be in 20 years from now.

We live in unprecedented times so we’ve been coming up with new approaches to protect ourselves as best we can from the fallout of ongoing central Government cuts. This means we’re pushing on with our financial strategy to buy commercial properties that give a good rental return as well as integrating services, improving customer journeys and driving digital transformation.

Looking at our housing stock, our foot remains fully on the throttle in relation to building much-needed council homes for our residents – the most recent of which (Goldsmith Street) has been shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA prize.

When it comes to the day-to-day working life of people at the city council it’s clear to see that the dynamics between cabinet members and officers are strong and effective – demonstrating that the council is at its best when these relationships are nurtured and preserved and values are shared.

Norwich has a very strong sense of identity and is a truly unique place to live, work and do business in.

There is much ahead for the city council to achieve so we very much look forward to welcoming our new chief executive on board.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your application.
